Heading up Mt Feathertop on crisp spring snow with @blooplanet @_deepcountry Alpine start and a perfect morning - clear and calm. Still going over all of Johns great photos from the trip.
Alpine dreaming - First overnight trip into the mountains with @blooplanet sharing his awesome backcountry experience. Such an enjoyable trek in good company and perfect weather: up the Bungalow Spur, snow camping near Federation Hut then an early morning ascent of Mt Feathertop. Lungs full of clarion air, leg muscles heavily worked and mountaineering aspirations all fired up!
Steve Morris @rockhardware_steve is the man for climbing gear and outdoor equipment. Being local I get my climbing gear from Steve, with in-depth advice on options and correct use. If you sadly don’t live in Central Victoria you can check out Steve’s newly revamped online store. Though historically interesting the old online store from the nineties has been replaced with a slick and easy to use interface; along with Steve’s great prices it’s worth a visit.
Dawn fro the portaledge. Great sleep on a full moon night. Though my mk2 ledge is too complicated and heavy the taut mat makes it bloody comfy!
Camping out at Mount Buffalo

Awesome in the box-ironbark canopy. A few very old trees surrounded by post colonial regrowth. I made it about 1/3 way up a Candelbark or possibly a Manna gum. Amazing spending a bit of quiet time in my local forest - even heard a koala and finally got to see snow up there. #thebigcanopycampout @canopycamp
Just starting to feel my toes again now I’m home and dry. #thebigcanopycampout @canopycamp
Snow on Mt Alexander! #thebigcanopycampout @canopycamp

Big canopy camp out @canopycamp
Portaledge 2 side stretch system. It works well on the ends but the load on the middle stretcher pivot point has distorted it. Overall it’s too complicated and heavy though the mat tensioning works well. My first attempt was more comfortable but less dimensionally stable - you learn each time! Got a whole new direction for portaledge 3 - its on my long list of prototypes to get too one day!
Breaking out portaledge 2 for @canopycamp tomorrow night. Haven’t slept on this since Ozymandias attempt. Picked out a big Candlebark tree up on Mt Alexander. Got my excellent book from the Friends of the Box-Ironbark Forests to brush up on local Eucalypts. 36 hour holiday to Hobart: managed to fit in a visit to John @bigwallgear Awesome design and engineering in the range of portaledges. These are the best on the planet! #aidclimb #aidclimbing #bigwallclimbing
Excellent gear bag from @industrialsewingworkshop
One of many experiments - my favourite bit of design and product development. This device was to grip the edge of a flake for #aidclimbing It was a fail! But leads me in new directions. I love dreaming up new gear, but most of it doesn’t make it to market. Full story on the website #aidclimb #bigwallclimbing #bigwall
Checking out the double tape knot on @aussiemadefabrics massive pull test machine. A knotted sling made in their 22kN nylon tube tape. You can see the stretch, surprisingly no slip in the knots. The break occurred inside the knot at an impressive 29.4kN. I expected much lower for a knotted sling. Tried one with a single tape knot and got 27.9kN. Thanks to crew @aussiemadefabrics for indulging my experimentation! I love breaking stuff! #rockclimbing #sling #knot
Double tape knot to reduce risk of a single knot snagging and releasing. See article on climbdesign.co. #knots #tradclimbing #rockclimbing
